Hensol Castle Wedding Photography & Videography – Lucy & Sam’s Laidback Spring Celebration

As Cardiff wedding photographers and videographers, we’re lucky enough to return to Hensol Castle again and again—and honestly? That first glimpse of the castle from the sweeping drive never gets old. Towering turrets, sprawling grounds, and gothic charm at every turn—it’s a total dream for storytelling wedding photography.

Lucy and Sam picked the perfect South Wales wedding venue for their spring celebration. Hensol Castle, a Grade I listed beauty, blends historic grandeur with light-filled modern spaces and jaw-dropping views over the Nant Coslech Lake—an ideal canvas for both photo and film.

Morning Prep at the Vale Resort & Hensol Castle

The day started at the nearby Vale Resort & Spa, where Lucy and her bridal party were getting ready in style. With her two children—flower girl and page boy—plus five bridesmaids and her lovely mum by her side, the atmosphere was buzzing.

Lucy looked incredible in her gown from All About Eve Bridal Wear, a fitted off-shoulder design with a flared skirt and subtle train that gave her the most stunning silhouette on camera. Her elegant veil, soft updo, and flawless makeup by Kathryn Kift completed the look. Bridesmaids wore deep gold dresses and carried dainty gypsophila posies, while Lucy’s bouquet featured fresh whites and greenery.

Meanwhile, over at the castle, we caught up with Sam and the groomsmen. They were relaxed, suited up in timeless black tie from Hanson, and clearly ready for the day. We captured them making their way through the castle grounds, looking effortlessly sharp.

Hensol Castle Wedding Ceremony in the Oak Room

The ceremony took place in Hensol’s opulent Oak Room—a wood-panelled showstopper with arched windows, period features, and tons of natural light. Lucy walked down the aisle with her mum, and the whole ceremony had such a warm, personal feel. We especially loved capturing all the laughter between Lucy and Sam—it was impossible not to smile along.

Afterwards, everyone gathered on the lawn for a classic confetti shot in front of the castle’s dramatic façade, followed by a relaxed drinks reception.

Relaxed & Fun Wedding Videography at Hensol Castle

While guests mingled, we whisked Lucy and Sam away for a short couple’s shoot around the gardens and lake. Despite a few giggles (and bubbles), they were total pros, and we made the most of the stunning setting. The spring light and soft clouds gave us gorgeous tones for some truly romantic portraits.

Back inside, Courtyard Hall had been beautifully dressed for the wedding breakfast, with high ceilings, chandeliers, and huge windows flooding the space with light. Guests welcomed the couple into the room with cheers, and speeches from Sam and his best man Will hit the perfect mix of heartfelt and hilarious. After dinner, guests spilled back out into the gardens to enjoy the evening sun and explore the castle.

As golden hour hit, we couldn’t resist stealing the couple away one last time. We headed down to the pontoon and even got the drone up for some creative aerial shots—including one of Lucy and Sam lying head to head on the boardwalk. Were they a little tipsy by then? Maybe. Did it make the photos even better? Absolutely.

Evening Party: Cake, Dancing & Chocolate Kebabs

The evening celebrations kicked off with a delicious three-tiered wedding cake from Cakesicle Creations, then Lucy and Sam took to the floor for their first dance. From there, the party properly started.

Live music from Audio Jaxx kept the dancefloor buzzing, and UltraBooth brought the fun with their ever-popular marryoke photobooth and props (the Viking hat was a crowd favourite). There were even chocolate kebabs. Yes—chocolate kebabs.

We jumped on the dancefloor to catch those final wild and wonderful moments, and the shot of Lucy and Sam dancing, laughing, and surrounded by their people? That was our perfect ending to their day.

Why We Love Hensol Castle Weddings

Weddings like Lucy and Sam’s are why we do what we do. A beautiful venue, a couple full of laughter, and a relaxed atmosphere that made capturing their day effortless. Being South Wales wedding videographers and photographers doesn’t get better than this.

We'll leave the last word to Lucy & Sam:

“Just wanted to message to say thank you so much for being part of our day. You were the perfect fit for us and made the photo-taking process as painless as possible (as you probably know by now, I hate my photograph taken!)”
